When Marco is chosen as junior apprentice to the young genius Michelangelo Buonarroti, he must say good-bye to his home and family. Alone and uncertain in Florence, he tries his best to please the master but Ridolfo, a jealous senior apprentice in the studio is treacherous. Before he knows it, Marco has been duped into looking like a fool and faces being sent home to Florence in disgrace. Will he find a way to stay, or must he break the promise he has made to his father in order to redeem himself? Both choices seem impossible difficult.
